From September to November 2015, the Flood proofing and drainage for medium-sized coastal cities in Viet Nam for adaption to climate change project supports the two flood-prone wards of Phu Yen and Binh Dinh with small-scale mitigation measure.

In Binh Dinh’s Hai Cang Ward, six (6) water containers have been handed over to the community living in Hamlet 9 (Hai Minh Island). These water containers will help improve the local population’s access to clean water, especially in case of disasters when 1893 people living in this island will be isolated completely. Access to clean water during disasters also contributes to reduce risks of infectious diseases.

In Phu Yen, loudspeakers have been equipped for Phu Dong Ward as the existing ones are not enough to cover the whole ward. Most of them are too old (over 10 years in use) to function properly. In addition, to mitigate the impacts of isolation for the communities in hamlet 2 and 3, FPP has provided them with two (2) motorboats. These boats will be also used for search and rescue.
