In 2012, the development programme Flood Proofing and Drainage of Medium-sized Coastal Cities in Vietnam for Adaptation to Climate Change was initiated, following a multi-level approach on the national, provincial and communal level. The programme's main objective is to improve the capacities of public institutions and the local urban population to adapt better to the more frequent and severe urban flooding due to effects of climate change. In this regard, it fosters cross-sectoral cooperation between governmental departments, ministries and the international community to harmonize sectoral efforts in the field of climate change adaptation, drainage and disaster risk management.
